ASHLEY N. GWATHNEY, MSW, LCSW
Our founder Ashley N. Gwathney, MSW, LCSW, is a published scholar, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Certified School Social Worker in New Jersey. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers University and graduated in 2014 with Advanced Standing. She is currently in her final year of completing her Doctorate in Social Work from Rutgers University. In her research, she is committed to highlighting the inequities of punitive school discipline. Her scholarship explores student voice as a restorative practice that is trauma-informed and student-centered.
In 2021, she published her first sole-authored article, “Offsetting Racial Divides: Adolescent African American Males and Restorative Practices,” in The Clinical Social Work Journal. Her ongoing scholarship centers on creating identity-affirming spaces for children, adolescents, and families through school advocacy, grassroots organizing, and community outreach. Ashley is a life-long learner and holds a true passion in her life’s calling in opening spaces for marginalized, vulnerable, and disenfranchised voices. Ashley’s background, experience, and training in servicing adolescents, families, and communities include:
- Actively collaborating with school administrators, staff, and state-based agencies
- Development of research-based student-centered approaches and outcomes
- Active and ongoing student advocacy, individualized case management, and restorative practices
- Coordination, outreach, and professional development for educators, advisors, guidance counselors, and other stakeholders
- Ongoing training in diversity, racial equity, and inclusion
- Clinical supervision, qualitative research, and holistic healing
